As a party, take into account that Epic gear does not equate to Uber heals.  Epic gear just makes healing a little easier.  In fact, a healer can have all Rares and still do a very good job.  It's all about game experience, player consideration and perception, and finally, knowing how to do big heals,  saving mana and mana per 5 second (MP5) regeneration.

Armour, Defense, Resistance
If you're tanking and going in NOT as a Protection Paladin or a Warrior, bring a damn shield! 

Do a little research about the instance you're entering.    Find out what type of potions or buffs you should get before you enter one.
